The Gee Bee revolution..........

The Gee Bees , yes the airplane u see in the background of this blog, is one of the most influential planes in history especially in design. It was one of the first marked evidence of designers and engineers shifting from traditional aircraft design that is why i chose it as my background. It was an airplane used for racing and acrobatic events. If  u notice, the tail portion and the cockpit is merged into one and the tail does not have a predominant airprint! The reason: many of u would laugh but its to reduce the stability of the plane so that manoeuvreing the plane during stunts is easy and simultaneously provide " just enough control " using the rudder. Many critics believed the plane would just not take off even if it did it would totally be in the mercy of the nature. And the fuselage.....where is it? there s nothing as such as a fuselage in this craft! Its all merged into one...the engine compartment along with the cockpit and the tail. Its basically a compressed version of a traditional airplane but nevertheless it was a revolution in aircraft designing .Coming back to fuselage it has a tear drop design which predominantly has less drag than the tapered design and the main reason for the cockpit situated at the rear is that it gives better visibility to the pilot while performing pylon turns while racing. It also had the reputation of being one of the dangerous machines to fly as it had small control surfaces and as i mentioned earlier , quite unstable in flight.Due to this many accidents occured and the production of this airplane stopped.Whatever be the case it serves our purpose of inspiration for attempting new design in the aviation world.Hope u liked today's post watch out for more........................................!!
